Client Spotlight: Lelaine Paik, Educational Consultant at The College Lane.
What do you love most about what you do?
Earning my students' trust, hearing their perspectives on the world, and being awed by their resolute optimism for the future. Young people today are worldly, caring, and inspired.
Was there a person or experience that inspired your career?
My current role is a full-circle career turn. After earning my law degree from Northwestern University School of Law, I began my career in admissions at the law school as Assistant Director for Admission and Financial Aid. Among the many highlights of my tenure was a trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg to select applicants for the Edmund S. Muskie Fellowship Program, established by the U.S. Congress.
What does your business do better than anyone else?
Listening. To the student. And the parents.
What do you wish you could change?
This is a tough question! I wish there were more kindness, integrity, and transparency--from organizations, our leaders, colleges and universities, and individuals. Kindly, say what you mean, and mean what you say.
What do you love to do when you're not in the office?
I live in a north suburb of Chicago, where warm, sunny days are to be thoroughly enjoyed. I love golf, although my game is so inconsistent that it truly is a good walk spoiled. I love books and usually work my way through three books at a time--a fiction, a work-related book, and a skill-improvement book. Yoga and I are not friends.
Fun Fact?
I have never played pickleball.
